Isaac Lee, Rachel Koebele, Sarah Yockers HOUR 3














Situation: Rachel is trying to catch a football and falls down the stairs. Her neck is punctured by a nail, her ankle appeared to twist under her, and her leg falls on a shovel.



Symptoms: There is pain and numbness around her neck, pain on her leg, she felt a pop in her ankle, along with pain and stiffness.



History: Two previous sprained ankles, otherwise everything goes along with falling down the stairs.



Quiz:

1. Should the responder remove the soaked through gauze on the neck and replace it with a fresh one?

2. T/F: The responder should ice the ankle.

3. T/F: The responder should raise the head to minimize blood loss from the neck.

4. When dealing with the position of ankle, the responder should:

a. Ask the athlete to try and walk on it to see if it hurts.

b. Move the ankle for the athlete.
